What is Gateway to Raas?
What is Garba-Raas?
Where is it taking place?
Gateway to Raas is dance competition hosted in St. Louis, Missouri. It features 8 of the nation's most elite Garba-Raas teams coming together for a weekend and putting on a dazzling show at the Sun Theatre, at the heart of Grand Center for the Arts.
Garba-Raas is a form of traditional dance from the westernmost state of Gujarat from the country of India. It is performed with traditional garments, but with a modern twist to the dance which has allowed it to flourish on stages and in auditoriums all over the country in the past decade.
In 2018, Gateway to Raas will be hosted at the Sun Theatre in the Grand Center for the Arts. It is located just walking distance for the Saint Louis University campus and will be the stage that 8 teams bring forth their passion for this dance, on January 20th.

  1. LATE SEPT
    Audition Application Deadline
    Teams will be asked to produce tapes meeting our application guidelines (will be specified closer to the date) and fill preliminary applications and questionnaires to help our board grasp what it is that can help us create a special weekend for all parties that are involved.
  2. EARLY OCT
    Liaison Application Deadline
    All individuals hoping to become a part of the Gateway to Raas weekend by becoming a liaison for both competing teams and exhibition teams will be asked to fill out an application and potentially interview to help us gage the personnel we may have and to create a competition that works in everyone's interests.
  3. MID NOV
    Team Confirmation Dealine
    Accepted teams will be notified and will proceed to fill out supplementaries documents, as well as a security deposit to secure their spot in Gateway to Raas 2018. Teams will be asked to submit information vital to the functions of the competition and the wholistic weekend.
